Government Shutdown: Failure to renew expiring security certificates results in many broken websites

By | January 11, 2019

According to this article, so far: more than 80 US government websites’ certificates are reported to have expired without being renewed.

NASA, the US Department of Justice, and the Court of Appeals are just some of the US government agencies currently impacted, according to Netcraft.

Editorial Remarks: Here’s a showing of a need for websites implementing automatic certificate renewals to reduce such requirements for manual intervention by humans to keep resources running.   And a reminder,  that until the shutdown is relieved…. more and more US government web resources are likely to break down with no repair in site,  whether planned or not.    If certificates aren’t even being renewed…. what other security and data loss risks may arise during this period?     Shame on you congress,  for failing to do your job,  and put forward a plan for sustaining basic services that you can pass (either with a presidential signature, or by 2/3 of you overriding the lack thereof).
